Super Vets

Series Two

Episode 10

4 year old Pepsi the cat has been referred to the Royal Veterinary College because she’s finding it more and more difficult to breathe.  X-rays reveal a hole in her diaphragm – the layer of muscle that separates her abdominal cavity from her heart.  The hole means Pepsi’s liver is sitting right beside her heart, squashing it and her lungs and leaving her struggling for breath.  Surgeon Dan Brockman must operate, but it’s risky…

Down the corridor, a 2 year old dog called Tango is being admitted for a cutting for a cutting edge elbow replacement operation with orthopaedic surgeons Andy Moores and Matthew Pead.  Tango has crippling arthritis which is destroying her elbow joint - this surgery is her only hope.  She’s been in so much pain, her owners have even considered euthanising her.  It’s the first time the operation has been done at the College, so everyone’s nervous as the day of the surgery dawns…

Meanwhile, down at London Zoo, a vulture called Jo has also been having problems walking.  Zoo Vet Tai Strike has done blood tests which reveal that Jo has a higher than normal level of lead in her blood, which could be causing her clinical signs.  Tai’s worried that Jo may have swallowed a lead pellet in one of the rabbits she’s been fed.  She needs to x-ray her to find out more…
