Steven is a Senior Clinical Training Scholar in Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Queen Mother Hospital, for Small Animals.
Biography
Steven graduated in 2005 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University in Belgium. After graduation, he performed there a 1-year Rotating Internship at the Small Animal Medicine department. During this year, he developed a special interest in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery. This resulted in the successful application of a PhD grant to investigate the diagnosis and treatment of disk associated wobbler syndrome in dogs. This is a challenging neck disorder which occurs commonly in adult to older Dobermann Pinschers. During this 4-year-during PhD he had the opportunity to gain clinical experience in several aspects of veterinary neurology and neurosurgery. He published many papers about his research topic in international veterinary journals and presented most of his work at scientific meetings. He was awarded with the John Prestus Prize for best oral presentation for a neurologist in training at the European Symposium of Veterinary Neurology in 2009. Steven started in July 2010 a Senior Clinical Training Scholar program in Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Royal veterinary College.
Research
Steven's main research interests are cervical spondylomyelopathy and other spinal cord disorders.
