Biography

Rosie graduated from the RVC in July 2006. She went on to complete an internship at Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, in Kent. She then moved to Newmarket and worked as a large animal assistant in first opinion practice. She returned to the RVC in July 2008 undertaking a residency in equine internal medicine. In 2011 Rosie completed a Masters degree in veterinary medicine (MVetMed) with her research in to Equine Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy for which she was awarded the Resident Prize at the ACVIM Forum in Denver, Colorado. Rosie passed the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Diploma in Large Animal Medicine last year, becoming a specialist in this field. Rosie is currently completing a PhD investigating muscle protein synthesis in horses, in the Comparative Neuromuscular Diseases Laboratory at the RVC.

Research

Rosie has worked within the Comparative Neuromuscular Diseases laboratory throughout her residency, investigating the effect of genotype on skeletal msucle and cardiac phenotype in horses with type 1 Polysaccharide storage myopathy. Rosie's clinical interest remains exercise physiology, in particular the role of skeletal muscle, and her PhD CASE studentship is investigating the factors affecting muscle protein synthesis in the horse. She is also performing a multi centre study investigating the effect of more selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs  (NSAID’s) in the post-operative care of horses who have undergone surgery for colic.

Teaching

Rosie continues to be involved in teaching equine medicine to BVetMed undergraduate students, through the delivery of clinical scenario and practical sessions.

Clinical

Rosie’s interests include neonatal medicine, gastroenterology and neuromuscular disease.
