Mieghan Bruce

Mieghan is PhD student with the Leverhulme Centre for Integrative Research on Agriculture and Health (LCIRAH) studying the impact of Brucellosis in the Nile Delta, Egypt. Her supervisors are Jonathan Rushton and Javier Guitian.
Biography
Mieghan graduated from the veterinary school at Murdoch University in Australia. She worked in rural mixed practice in Forbes, Australia including contract work as a District Veterinarian. She then travelled to the UK, working in both mixed and small animal practice before completing the MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology at the RVC and LSTHM in 2010. Mieghan started her PhD in 2010.
Research
Mieghan's research focusses on the multidimensional impact of zoonotic diseases. Her PhD aims to evaluate why people act as they do with respect to livestock disease control by integrating the political economy with livestock production to explore the incentives and constraints that determine the behavior and actions made by decision makers. Her main interest is integrating the metrics of epidemiologic, economic and behavioural science to develop dynamic models.
Teaching
Mieghan is contributes to the directed learning sessions and seminars for the undergraduate students and practical exercises for the MSc VetEpi and CIDA sutdents. She is involved in lecturing and tutoring in the BVetSci elective "Prevention vs Cure".
