Liz is a Senior Clinical Training Scholar in Equine Medicine investigating endothelial function in laminitic ponies
Biography
Liz graduated from the RVC in July 2005. She completed an internship in the RVC equine hospital before moving to equine practice in Cambridgeshire. After 3 years in equine practice where Liz had focused on anaesthesia and medicine cases, she returned to the RVC in June 2009 as a Senior Clinical Training Scholar in Equine Medicine.
She has completed the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia (CertVA) and is studying towards the Masters degree in Veterinary Medicine (MVetMed). Liz is enrolled for the European College of Equine Internal Medicine (DipECEIM) and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DipACVIM) diplomas.
Research
Liz is investigating endothelial function in laminitic ponies using a technique called Flow Mediated Vasodilation. This assesses blood vessels’ ability to dilate in response to stimuli. As well as its application to the study of laminitis, this technique has applications in the study of human heart disease and stroke.
Teaching
Liz teaches final year veterinary students during their intra-mural clinical rotations and is involved in teaching third and fourth year students during practicals and directed learning sessions.
Clinical
Liz's specific interests are in the intensive care of critically ill patients, ophthalmology and cardiology.
