Dominic Barfield

Dom is a staff clinician in the section of Emergency and Critical Care at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA)


Biography

Dom graduated from the University of Sydney in 2002 and spent the following 5 years working in small animal practice in Sydney where he developed an interest in emergency work. He returned to the UK in 2008 to undertake a senior clinical training scholarship (residency) in Emergency and Critical Care at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA). After finishing his studies in June 2011 and having been awarded a Masters of Veterinary Medicine (MVetMed) Dom has stayed on QMHA as a staff clinician within the Emergency and Critical Care section.

Research

Dom's current research interests include: transfusion medicine, septic peritonitis and clinical use of anti-arrhythmic agents.

Teaching

Dom is involved in teaching in the clinical environment for undergraduate students and post graduate trainng scholars. He has lectured for the BSc in veterinary nursing at the RVC and post-graduates within the QMHA. He has spoken at continuing education meetings and conferences both nationally and internationally in the field of emergency and critical care. 

Clinical

Dom's clinical interests include; managing the critically ill patient, transfusion medicine and sepsis.
