Charlotte Avella

Charlotte is a Staff Clinician in Equine Diagnostic Imaging within the Equine Referral Hospital, and in addition is currently writing up her PhD within the Tendon Biology group.
Biography
Charlotte graduated with a degree in Veterinary Science from the University of Bristol in 2000. After an Internship in equine practice and a further 18 months as an equine ambulatory veterinarian, Charlotte joined the Royal Veterinary College as a Senior Clinical Training Scholar in Equine Orthopaedics (2003 to 2006). During the scholarship under the supervision of Professor Roger Smith, Charlotte developed a particular interest in equine tendon injuries. She participated in a large scale epidemiological study investigating tendon injuries in National Hunt horses in training throughout England. She then undertook a PhD investigating the mechanisms if tendon injury and aging supervised by Professor Roger Smith and Dr Jay Dudhia.
Research
Charlotte is currently completing her PhD and then plans to continue her research in the area of equine musculoskeletal injury.
Teaching
Charlotte runs the equine diagnostic imaging rotation for the final year BVet Med students and teaches on the Masters in Veterinary Physiotherapy course.
Clinical
Charlotte is working within equine diagnostic imaging and has a particular interest in standing equine MRI of the distal limb and CT of the head.
