Carla Johnson

Carla is currently undertaking a PhD in Sheep Blowfly strike supervised by Dr. Anne Ridler and Jackie Cardwell from the RVC and Prof. Wall from Bristol University. Carla is interested in Veterinary parasitology particularly in vector borne diseases.


Biography

Carla graduated in July 2000 from the University of Leeds where she studied a BSc (hons) in Biology. During her time in Leeds she specialized in parasitology and immunity.
In 2002 she graduated from The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies where she completed her MSc course in International Animal Health in the department of Tropical Veterinary Medicine. While studying in Edinburgh she gained experience working Vector Borne diseases in Wildlife, in particular she worked with Iberian Red Deer and filariasis caused by Elaeophora elaphi and assisted working with Wild Boars and TB infections.
In October 2009 Carla started a 4 year PhD in sheep Blowfly strike in England at the RVC.
 

Research

Carla's research interests are mainly in Veterinary parasitology, especially in vector borne diseases and entomology. Carla has also an interest in the role of wild life as a reservoir of infectious diseases.
