Angeles is a Staff Clinician in Anaesthesia at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA)
Biography
Angeles graduated from Barcelona University in 1999 and then followed a Veterinary Surgery course at Bristol University in 2000. Angeles worked for six months in a first opinion small animal practice in Barcelona in 2000 and then went on to work in food hygiene in the South-East of England. Angeles commenced her Junior Clinical Training Scholarship in Anaesthesiology at the QMHA in February 2003. After that she completed the Residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia at the QMHA in May 2007. She is currently working as a clinical instructor in Anaesthesia for the Veterinary Clinical Sciences department in the RVC.
Research
Angeles’ interest centre around cardiovascular and respiratory physiological effects of Anaesthesia; the physiology of chronic and neuropathic pain and the assessment and evaluation of analgesic techniques for the treatment of chronic and neuropathic pain.
The introduction of newer anaesthetic agents and the latest techniques are of great interest too, aiming always for the smoothest and safest anaesthesia.
Teaching
Angeles is particularly interested in Anaesthesia management for the risky patient; Respiratory and cardiovascular physiology applied to Anaesthesia; Inhalant Anaesthesia and Paediatric and maternal Anaesthesia.
Clinical
Angeles is interested in all aspects of Veterinary Anaesthesia.
She enjoys the variety of cases and species that allows a veterinary anaesthetist to work in very different situations. She is very interested in cardio-thoracic Anaesthesia and she is a member of the by-pass team in the QMHA. Together with the other members of the Anaesthesia team, she prepares and undertakes the anaesthetic of the dogs going for cardiac surgery under cardio-pulmonary by-pass.
She prepares and discusses every case with the rest of the anaesthesia team and primary clinicians to ensure the best approach and optimal care for every patient, in a daily basis.
Angeles helps with analgesic or sedation protocols to ensure always the best care and animal welfare of the patients in the hospital.
