RVC on Tour 2009
In September 2009 the RVC on Tour visited 10 locations across the country offering over 550 students, parents and teachers an insight into the courses and careers available in the veterinary field. The Tour spread the length and breadth of the country visiting: Cheshire, Cumbria, Devon, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Tyneside and Yorkshire.
Each event offered informative talks on the pathways available within the veterinary profession as well as the opportunity to speak one-to-one with current RVC staff, students and recent graduates. Guests also got the chance to carry out practical activities from our state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Centre, such as bandaging, gowning, gloving, using haptic technology and attempting a one-handed tie.
Here’s a selection of what some of those 550 guests thought:
- It gave me loads of information and helped me know what subjects are needed.
- This event has shown the wide areas of careers you can do with each of the RVC courses as well as giving information on personal statements, BMAT and interview. It has made me feel more prepared for my application.
- It is helpful to hear from both staff and students about the application process and the course itself. This event was easier to get to than the RVC itself which gave me an early impression of what it is like to study there without too much travelling.
- It has given a good insight into veterinary and what options there are and what to do with your grades. It has also given insights into how to apply which is useful. Talking to the students has given an idea of the course and what its like.
- The event has been beneficial because it has cleared up any queries I have had and has offered a lot of information.
- Learned more about actual structure of the courses and that a wider range of courses are available than just BVetMed.
- It has been informative and beneficial as I want to work with animals and this has given me a better insight into the options available.
- I enjoyed the hands on experience and also thought that the students and graduates were very friendly and happy to answer any questions.
- Good overview of courses and entry requirements. Very helpful tips about applying. Very clear presentation. Helpful variety of ambassadors for students to talk to.
- How to stitch a one handed tie, I've seen it done loads of times as like WOW! It's great to finally know how to do it!
- It showed more details than any other talks I have attendedabout what I wanted to do.
- It answered a lot of qualifications that I'd had previously and had found difficult to answer. It also helped me to better understand and advised me about the application process, particularly work experience.
