Internal Medicine
The Internal Medicine Service offers a comprehensive canine and feline medical referral service
to veterinary surgeons in general practice. Clinics are run daily from Monday to Thursday with
an emergency service available at other times.
Residents and interns work under supervision of academic staff whilst studying to obtain postgraduate qualifications.
Clients can expect to have full investigations of their pets' problems. Medicine patients are generally admitted to the hospital to facilitate a complete workup. This might include clinical pathology, radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy or endocrine function tests. Where appropriate, if surgery is felt to be necessary, internal referrals can be made within the hospital to the Soft Tissue Surgery Service.
Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities Include:
- Flexible video endoscopy for the investigation of respiratory, urinary and gastrointestinal disease
- Intensive therapy unit for emergency and critical care
- Scintigraphy
- Fluoroscopy
- Chemotherapy
- Magnetic resonance imaging
- Radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroid cats
Special Clinical Interests Include:
- Investigation and treatment of endocrine disease
- Feline medicine
- Nephrology and urology
