Anaesthesia

A patient recovering after phaecomulsification for cataract lens removalThe Anaesthesia Service is always on call to provide support to clinicians from all services within the Hospital. With a wealth of experience of anaesthesia in a wide range of specialist areas, including anaesthesia for cardiac and neurosurgery, the team is well equipped to look after animals under its care.

Using the latest equipment and most up to date techniques, all animals, from the most routine to the most critical, are ensured the highest level of care from the time of premedication and preparation through to their recovery in wards or, where necessary, in our Intensive Care Unit. Patient safety and comfort, including pain relief, are always paramount.

Two anaesthetists are on duty in the Hospital at any one time, one in the Theatre Unit to ensure care for operative
patients and the other in the Induction Room to serve patients being assessed in the various diagnostic areas
of the Hospital and also to give advice and cover to patients in ICU and other wards.

Hatim is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthetists, and a Lecturer in Anaesthesia at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA)

Alessandra started the residency in Anaesthesia at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA) in November 2007 and is now working towards the RCVS certificate in Anaesthesia and the ECVA diploma in Anaesthesia

Rui is a resident in Anaesthesia at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA)


Al Taylor Al Taylor

Al is a Staff Clinician in large animal anaesthesia and spends the majority of his time on clinics.  He holds the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia and is enrolled for the European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.  Interests include all aspects of equine anaesthesia but specifically colic anaesthesia and post-operative analgesia and also small ruminant anaesthesia.
