Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a well recognised therapy for animals. The water provides a weightless environment in which the animal can exercise, this prevents excess stress on already problematic joints and muscles.
Hydrotherapy can be used as part of a planned rehabilitation programme for pre and post surgical cases as well as long term management of chronic conditions. It can also be used in conjunction with a fitness and weight management regime to improve your dog's overall health.
Hydrotherapy is beneficial for a variety of cases:
- Pre and post operative orthopaedic patients
- Management and post operative treatment of neurology patients
- To help alleviate the pain of arthritic conditions
- To improve muscle strength and stamina
- To improve joint movement and function
- To help weight reduction
- General fitness
The hydrotherapy service is provided by a team of trained and qualified veterinary nurses with a wide knowledge of rehabilitation, who are supported by a registered on site physiotherapist. The experienced team are available five days a week for both appointments and advice.
Before commencing hydrotherapy the veterinary physiotherapist and a member of the hydro team will carry out a health check and take a full history, allowing them to develop a treatment programme that is specific for each individual. Input regarding the rehabilitation programme is also provided by members of the experienced neurology and orthopaedic services.
Owners are strongly encouraged to participate in the sessions, through encouragement and support often with toys and treats.
