The Team

Total hip replacements and total elbow replacements require the coordinated efforts of a wide range of staff.

The Anaesthesia Service at the Queen Mother Hospital provide specialist level anaestheisa for each patient, ensuring the safest possible anaesthetic and optimal postoperative analgesia (pain control).

We have excellent theatre nurses who will often 'scrub-in' and assist with procedures as well as prepare the patients for surgery. The nursing team also plays a key role in the postoperative care which will often include physiotherapy and hydrotherapy (both of which are available on-site at the Queen Mother Hospital).

Nicola Bound Nicola Bound

Nicola works as a senior clinical training scholar in small animal surgery.  Most of her time is spent doing clinical work with both the soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery services.

Elvin Kulendra Elvin Kulendra

 Elvin is a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery and a Staff Clinician in Small Animal Surgery at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals.


Pilar Lafuente Pilar Lafuente

Pilar is a Lecturer in Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery, and an American and European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. She is involved in clinical work, teaching and research. Her interests include bone lengthening, external fixation and stifle disease.


Richard Meeson Richard Meeson

Richard is a European Specialist in Surgery and Staff Clinician in Small Animal Surgery at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals.


Matthew Pead Matthew Pead

Dr Pead's time is split between teaching, research, and the referral practice of the Queen Mothers Hospital for Animals. He is currently the RVC Academic director of professional assessement and developement, and Director of the clinical skills centre.


Karen Perry Karen Perry

Karen is a Lecturer in Small Animal Orthopaedics and a European recognised specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Her main interests are traumatology, limb salvage including the use of prosthetics and novel uses for Vacuum-Assisted Closure.

Faye Swinbourne Faye Swinbourne

 Faye is a Senior Clinical Training Scholar in Small Animal Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College.
