Facilities

To allow us to provide the best quality service to clients and to act as a centre of excellence in the field of teaching of under and postgraduate veterinary surgeons and nurses, the Hospital has the following facilities:

Consultation Rooms New Consulting Room

We have recently expanded to include 24 large and spacious consulting rooms for clients, patients, students and veterinary surgeons.

Surgical Suite

This consists of five theatres expanding to eight from July 2008, as well as an anaesthetic induction/prep room, instrument store and sterilising room.

Diagnostic Suite

Comprising state of the art equipment:

  • Two ultrasound rooms
  • EMG and ERG rooms
  • ECG machines

Digital RadiographyRadiography Suites

These are staffed by two radiographers and consist of two separate x-ray machines, one for general use and a state of the art digital machine for contrast procedures such as myelography, angiography and fluoroscopy.

These machines allow us to make high quality radiographs, which are essential for diagnosis of many diseases in small animals.

CT Scanner

This machine measures electronically the absorption of x-rays by structures within the body and produces images with similar CT Scannerproperties to conventional radiographs. There is a wide range of clinical applications for small animals including detailed examination of the head, investigation of suspected mediastinal or pulmonary disease, through abdominal examination, including the pancreas, and assessment in dogs with suspected fragmented coronoid process. This facility has greatly increased our capability to investigate a variety of small animal and equine conditions.

EndoscopyEndoscopy Unit

This is a dedicated endoscopy room. This has state of the art video endoscopes including a bronchoscope, and gastroscopes. Facilities for rigid and flexible work are available and digital images of the endoscopic images can be taken.

MRI MRI

This is a facility which is available for referral work and also for outpatients. We offer a complete service kennelling, anaesthetic procedures and interpretation of scans. Scans are performed by specialist technicians and read by our expert staff. Our anaesthetists are on hand to provide total care to the patients.

Hydrotherapy Pool

This type of treatment is of enormous benefit to patients with neurological or orthopaedic conditions that would benefit from weightless exercise. It can also be useful for animals that may require a controlled fitness programme.

Patients can take to the water via a ramp or hoist and we have life jackets to suit all sizes. We have shower and drying areas close to the pool.

Wards

We have over 150 kennels available for patient accommodation during their stay and treatment. These are divided into surgical, medicine, neuro, soft tissue, special treatment, isolation and cat wards. Soft Tissue Ward

We have a dedicated Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated Iodine 131 therapy ward for treating cats with hyperthyroidism. We also have a separate isolation ward to allow barrier nursing to take place, should infectious cases be admitted to the Hospital.

Every pet is housed in an appropriate sized kennel. The wards are centrally heated and all kennels have mattresses or soft bedding. Extra heated bedding is available for those that need it.
