Facilities
To allow us to provide the best quality care of patients and service to our clients as well as being a centre of excellence in the field of teaching of under and postgraduate veterinary surgeons and nurses, the hospital has the following facilities:
Consultation Rooms
22 spacious consulting rooms to comfortably accommodate clients, patients, students and veterinary surgeons. An in house dispensary run by a qualified team of staff provides all medication for in-patients and out-patients.
Surgical Suite
7 state of the art operating theatres, as well as an anaesthetic induction room, patient preparation room, sterile equipment store and surgical sterilising suite.
Diagnostic Suite
Comprising state of the art equipment:
- Two ultrasound rooms
- EMG and ERG rooms
- ECG machines
Radiography Suites
These are run by a team of qualified radiographers and consist of two separate Xray machines, one producing digital images for general use and the other has a state of the art digital machine for contrast procedures such as myelography, angiography and fluoroscopy.
These machines allow us to make top quality radiographs, which are essential for diagnosis
of many diseases in small animals.
CT Scanner
This machine electronically measures the absorption of Xrays by structures within the body and
produces images with similar
properties to conventional radiographs. There is a wide range of clinical
applications for small animals including detailed examination of the head, investigation of suspected
mediastinal or pulmonary disease, through abdominal examination, including the pancreas, and assessment
in dogs with suspected fragmented coronoid process. This facility has greatly increased our capability to
investigate a variety of small animal and equine conditions.
Endoscopy Unit
This is a dedicated endoscopy room which has state of the art video endoscopes including bronchoscopes and gastroscopes. Facilities for rigid and flexible work are available and digital images of the endoscopic images can be taken.
MRI
This top of the range facility is located in a purpose built diagnostic imaging suite and is operated by our team of qualified radiographers. As with all diagnostic imaging the MRI images are interpreted by our team of specialist radiologists.
Hydrotherapy Pool
A hydrotherapy pool which is run by qualified veterinary nurses trained and experienced in hydrotherapy is available for the treatment of inpatients
and outpatients on a referral basis. This type of treatment is of enormous benefit to patients with neurological
or orthopaedic conditions that would benefit from weightless exercise. It can also be useful for animals that require a controlled fitness programme.
Patients can take to the water via a ramp or hoist and we have buoyancy jackets to suit all sizes of patient. There are shower and drying facilities within the pool building.
Wards
We have over 150 kennels available for patient accommodation during their stay and treatment. These include orthopaedic, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, soft tissue surgery, oncology and cat wards.
We have a dedicated superbly designed and equipped Intensive Care Suite staffed by a large team of veterinary surgeons and nurses 24 hours a day.
We are one of few practices in the UK with a dedicated Iodine 131 therapy ward for treating cats with hyperthyroidism and a separate isolation ward to allow effective barrier nursing of infectious patients.
