Programme Structure
MSc in Livestock Health and Production (seven modules):
Three compulsory core modules:
- Animal Disease (Current Concepts)
- Developing and Monitoring of Livestock Production Systems
- Principles of Livestock Production
Plus, four further optional modules selected from:
- Animal Welfare
- Epidemiology and Animal Health Economics
- Economics for Livestock Development and Policy
- Management of Infectious Disease Outbreaks in Animal Populations
- Reproduction and Fertility – a Species Approach
- Research, Design, Management and Grant Application Writing
- Veterinary Public Health
- Research Project in Livestock Health and Production

Postgraduate Diploma in Livestock Health and Production (four modules):
Two compulsory core modules:

AND one other chosen from the following:-

Two optional modules selected from:
- Animal Welfare
- Epidemiology and Animal Health Economics

One compulsory core module:

PLUS one other chosen from the following:-
- Developing and Monitoring of Livestock Production Systems
- Principles of Livestock Production
Please note: (i) That students must pass the assessment in the core modules prior to commencing the assessment in the optional modules. (ii) That all the modules for the MSc degree, Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate are also available as 240-hour individual modules. Please see ‘Individual Modules ’ for further information.
Course Materials

All course materials will be posted to you and which will include both a Study Guide and Reader.
Computer Requirements
There are no computer requirements to do this MSc, but access to a computer and the Internet is useful for online library access and to join the Virtual Learning Environment.
Access to the Internet is specifically required for the course Research, Design, Management and Grant Application Writing.
Assessment
- Examination
Each individual course will be examined by a three-hour unseen written examination, which may contain both essays and shorter questions.
Examinations only take place once a year in October. Examinations are normally held in a student’s country of residence and there is no requirement for students to visit the UK. There are over 650 examination centres worldwide. - Assignment
You will also be required to submit one compulsory written assignment per module, which will count as part of the formal assessment.
The two elements are weighted as follows: Unseen written examination (80%), compulsory written assignment (20%)
