Programme Structure

The course duration is part time, two to five calendar years, and starts each September. It is delivered as two compulsory full day workshops per 15 credit module, plus online work.

There will be two modes of delivery and study:

  • Mixed Mode
This will involve part-time study over a period of a minimum of 24 months to a maximum of 5 years. The delivery mode will be mixed, consisting of face-to-face study days with online discussions and support. There will be 2 compulsory full day workshops for each 15 credit module, and 5 workshops for each 30 credit module.
  • Distance Learning (available in 2011)
A Distance-learning only programme will be available which will extend for a minimum period of 24 months up to a maximum of 5 years. This mode will be entirely by text and online delivery. Candidates will not be required to attend the campus for any workshops.

Assessment

‘Learning through assessment’ is the main philosophy that is being adopted in developing assessments in the programme. Assessment has been aligned to learning outcomes and to influence learning. In all the modules, assessments have been designed to incorporate the learners’ own work requirements and facilitate reflective practice. The following assessments methods are used:

  • Tutor marked assignments
  • Tutor and peer assessed teaching observations on face to face/online presentations and use of technologies for teaching
  • Reflective and critical portfolio development
  • Reflective and evaluative essays tracking own development
