Employing Migrant Workers/ Working in the UK

Under the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act (2006) employers have a responsibility to prevent illegal immigrants working or studying in their organisations.

On 29 February 2008, the previous Labour Government introduced new legislation for the prevention of illegal working which applied to individuals who commenced employment on or after 29 February 2008. The Points-Based System (PBS) replaced the work permit scheme and standardised and secured the methods individuals are able to use to enter the UK to work or study.

Following the General Election in 2010, the Coalition Government have announced that the points based system is to be reviewed - further details will be posted here as and when necessary.

Staff can access further information by visiting the internal Employing Migrant Workers page.
