Probation Guidance for Managers
All college employees are subject to a probationary review prior to confirmation of their appointment.
Research, Professional and Administrative Support staff are subject to a probationary review of either 6 or 12 months depending on grade. Managers will be notified when an employees probationary review date is approaching and advised of the appropriate procedure.
Academic staff are subject to a 3 year probationary review. Between 6 and 8 months prior to their probation end date, probationary academics are invited to an academic board where a panel comprising of senior college staff and at least one external advisor will asses the candidates suitability for conformation.
It should be stressed that if a manager has any concerns at all in respect of an employees performance, they should contact Employee Relations at the earliest possible opportunity. HR can then advise as to the most appropriate course of action so as to ensure the best chance of resolving the issue to a satisfactory conclusion.
