Management Toolkits
For many busy managers, the skills and techniques needed to find, develop and retain good people are ones they don’t always have as much time to think about as they’d like.
These practical and participative courses recognise the demands we all face in managing our day to day work, and draw on a range of different learning tools to provide you with sensible answers to your questions about:-
- Recruiting the right people for the right jobs
- Leading and motivating teams and individuals to achieve results
- Getting the best from the performance appraisal process
- Resolving conduct and performance problems constructively and effectively
- Achieving the right outcomes from formal procedures
Each course is supported by comprehensive and easy to follow written material, set out in the first version of the RVC Management Toolkit. Managers can obtain a copy of this from HR, and we will be adding more material to the programme, including areas such as Probation and Diversity as time goes by.
On its own, each course in the programme will help managers with many practical problems. Together, they offer a quick and easy means of enhancing skills to become an effective manager.
The links below explain more about each Toolkit:
- The Recruitment Toolkit provides practical help with writing job adverts, job descriptions and person specifications. It also shows how the HERA framework can help get the best person for the job, and provide advice on effective interview techniques.
- The Managing People Toolkit is split into three sections: ‘Results Through People’ provides help with leading and motivating teams; ‘Resolving Issues’ can help put things right when problems occur and ‘Managing Discipline’ shows how to use formal procedures constructively when the need arises.
- The Appraisal Toolkit can help ensure appraisals work for managers and staff and give useful advice on setting and reviewing SMART objectives.
- The Absence Management Toolkit can help improve the health, wellbeing and attendance of all employees. This toolkit will help managers to develop the knowledge and skills required.
