Academic Promotion

The Annual Review takes place every December. It is a process which allows Heads of Departments to recommend to the Review Committee applications for academic promotion. Written applications must be read by the Head of Department and signed as a correct record confirming the agreement between the parties on the factual details of the application. Any disagreement must be recorded and appended to the application. The application, having been signed by the Head of Department (or unsigned if the Head of Department withholds their signature), must be sent by the applicant to HR.

There is also an agreement between the College and the recognised Trade Unions (UCU, UNISON, UNITE) which allows members of staff to make their own applications for academic promotion. Applicants for academic promotion are advised to consult another member of academic staff about the application. The local UCU representatives can suggest, confidentially, names of suitable advisors if requested.

For support staff, the Review Committee will not consider applications for re-grading. Members of staff who feel that their role has grown in size, since the Job Evaluation exercise in 2005-06, should discuss this with their line manager.
