ORBIS Bioscience Business Training Programme
ORBIS: Helping bioscience companies and graduate level individuals respond to the economic downturn.
The ORBIS (Overcome Recession: Bioscience Investment in Skills) bio-business skills training programme sets out to respond to two distinct bioscience sector needs:
- To provide affordable, relevant and responsive bio-business skills training to help companies tackle the current economic downturn more effectively.
- To allow talented graduate-level interns to work within bioscience related companies on key projects, to increase company productivity, and to up-skill the interns.
Bioscience companies, primarily based in London and the South East of England, will benefit from tailored bio-business training to enable them to deploy cutting edge commercial processes in the workplace. Additionally they will be able to cost effectively access graduate-level interns to work on innovative research and development projects.
Graduate-level bioscientists - specifically recent graduates with limited workplace experience or unemployed sector specialists - will benefit from paid internships with host companies from the bioscience sector. They will also receive a programme of high quality bio-business training. The training and workplace experience will allow graduates to develop new technical and commercial skills that will enhance their employment prospects and allow the sector as a whole to thrive.
The project will be delivered by The London BioScience Innovation Centre (LBIC) and The Royal Veterinary College (RVC). Project funding comes from the Economic Challenge Investment Fund (ECIF) managed by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). The programme will run from April 2009 to September 2010.
