LBIC Flexilab
LBIC Flexilab provides short-term, cost effective, bench space within a fully equipped shared laboratory environment.
Since opening in 2001, The London BioScience Innovation centre (LBIC) has supported the growth of over 50 registered clients. LBIC prides itself on its flexible approach, both in terms of agreements and meeting the physical needs of clients. Flexilab has been developed to respond to genuine bioscience sector needs.
According to the London Biotechnology Network, there are now over 130 biopharma companies in Greater London. Nearly 40% of these companies are spin-outs of major universities. Many of these companies start life as pre start-ups funded through small innovation grants, making laboratory space in London often inaccessible. Flexilab will provide a cost effective alternative for those very early stage ventures requiring access to discrete space and lab equipment for a very short period of time.
Flexilab will specifically support the needs of bioscience entrepreneurs and companies, providing bench space for early stage or proof of concept studies, contract work, short-term expansions of current clients, student intern projects and collaborative ventures with visiting scientists.
In order to minimise costs to the clients, additional income will be generated through the rental of bench space to equipment manufacturers and suppliers. This will be a great opportunity for suppliers to demonstrate their products and for bench scientists to learn new techniques and access the latest cutting edge technologies.
