RVC’s Chapter of the Veterinary Business Management Association

RVC_VBMA was founded in late 2007 and is the first European chapter of the parent VBMA organisation. It currently has in excess of 70 student members and aims to deliver six events each academic year.

VBMA logoVBMA was founded by 3 vet students at the University of Pennsylvania in 2001. It is now a global student-led community, with over 2,500 members across North America, the Caribbean, Australia and now the UK. It aims to promote veterinary sector students’ interest in business, management and enterprise. Please see www.vbma.biz for further information.

RVC_VBMA is dedicated to improving the health and welfare of animals undergoing veterinary treatment by ensuring new veterinary professionals have the skills to optimally manage their businesses and consequently provide excellent veterinary care.

The Red ArrowsThe RVC_VBMA Executive Committee sets out to run the club as a business thereby developing key enterprise and leadership skills amongst members and ensuring the club is viewed credibly by the veterinary community.

RVC_VBMA has developed an effective strategy which involves working with leading companies such as Hill’s Pet Nutrition (lead sponsor) and entrepreneurial practitioners. Hill’s recently sponsored the “1st RVC-Hill’s Veterinary Business Keynote Address where former Red Arrows pilot Justin Hughes (Mission Excellence) spoke about the importance of “no blame cultures in the workplace and the significance of “debriefing for improving workplace performance.

Other RVC_VBMA events have focused on topics such as the transition from vet school to practice, effective farm animal veterinary business strategies, small animal practice market research and starting a new veterinary practice.

Veterinary sector professionals and small business owners from outside the College are welcome to attend VBMA events.

Students in a lectureRVC_VBMA is a critical “bottom-up (i.e. student-led) part of the RVC’s goal to ensure that all of its students are innovative business thinkers as well as clinically effective and ethical practitioners when they enter the workplace
