Facilities

Outpatients
We are able to carry out many diagnostic procedures and some treatments as outpatient services in our new, purpose-built facilities, increasing convenience and reducing costs to owners.

StablesHospitalisation
We have excellent, new barn accommodation which can accommodate 45 horses in spacious well ventilated stables. We use deep shavings beds and feed only the best quality, low dust meadow hay. All horses are groomed daily and we stock a wide range of horse feeds to maintain dietary continuity when your horse is hospitalised. When your horse is admitted one of our Large Animal Technicians will be assigned to your horse and will be responsible for your horse’s care throughout its stay in the hospital.

Digital radiography
We have the latest digital radiography technology and our powerful machines allow to carry out the highest quality diagnostic investigations in all regions of the horse. Our machines are powerful enough to image very difficult regions including the base of the neck, thorax, vertebrae, shoulder and the pelvis in the standing, conscious horse.

Computed TomographyComputed tomography
We are one of only two centres in the UK with computed tomography (CT) and we have the only machine in the South of England. CT takes imaging to a new level and provides fantastic detail of soft tissue and bone, revealing information that cannot be obtained with radiography. It is particularly useful for the limbs and head.

Scintigraphy
Scintigraphy, often referred to as bone scanning, is particularly useful in horses and allows skeletal injury to be identified before changes are visible on radiography. It is a vital tool for investigating lame horses and is particularly useful for examining the back.

Ultrasound being undertaken to assess fractured carpal accessory bone Ultrasound
Ultrasound is used to image soft tissue and is an indispensable part of almost all investigations we carry out. We have the very latest technology allowing us to image all regions of the horse including tendons, heart, lungs, reproductive tract and abdomen. We have highly specialised equipment for measuring blood flow and assessing heart function, including assessment of murmurs. assessing tendons

VideoendoscopyVideoendoscopy
Videoendoscopy gives us access to the inside of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urinary tracts. We have a range of the latest flexible endoscopes that allow us to visualise these regions of the horse in exquisite detail and take small biopsy samples for laboratory diagnosis.

Equine TreadmillTreadmill
Investigation of poor performance cases is greatly facilitated by our high speed treadmill. Horses quickly learn to run on the treadmill and this allows us to assess their musculoskeletal, cardiac and respiratory systems in a controlled environment. By combining treadmill exercise with videoendoscopy we can assess the larynx and upper airway at exercise. Radiotelemetric ECG examination allows us to assess heart abnormalities.
