Small Animal Oncology

Oncology Archive

There is a high prevalence of cancer (neoplasia) in companion animals. Many of the chemotherapeutic drugs that are used are not specifically under veterinary license, and may be associated with undesirable side-effects. Therefore, it is important that further research is conducted into the field of neoplastic disease within companion animals, for this reason we have set up an Oncology Archive, with plans to collaborate with other UK centres.

We aim to collect fresh residual samples from all tumours from all breeds of dog and cats. In addition to this we will also collect residual blood for DNA archiving for future research. The tissue archive will work as a central database relating to the prevalence of certain types of tumour in certain breeds.
