A Sentimental Journey

Saturday 28th March 2009

The Trust would like to say a big thank you to Clare Grove and Sally Hughes. Clare’s dog, Humphrey, was treated at the Royal Veterinary College’s Queen Mother Hospital in 2008 when he was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. He is now. doing really well and in March 2009, he stared in the theatre production of ‘A Sentimental Journey’ which was staged at “The Mill at the Sonning Theatre”.

Lindsay meets the castDue to Humphrey receiving such wonderful treatment from the staff at the QMH, Clare wanted show her appreciation by doing some fundraising. She very kindly organised a collection for The Animal Care Trust during the matinee and evening performances of A Sentimental Journey. Sally, the owner of the Theatre, who also played the part of Doris Day in this fabulous show, then matched what was already raised. Many thanks to everybody that was involved in the event and raising a tremendous £1260 from the audience of the matinee and evening performances.

Clare and Sally along with Lindsay, an ACT team member, who had the pleasure of meeting the cast, and of course, the lovely Humphrey on the night.

Coffee Morning

Kath Powell and a group of her friends took part in a Coffee morning to raise funds for the Trust, here’s what Kath had to say:

‘For some 15 years a pre Christmas mince pie and coffee morning charity event has been held in the car park on Riddlesdown Common, Purley.

Mostly it is attended by local dog walkers with their dogs. Allegedly they come for the free mulled wine, home made mince pies and cakes and coffee as well as doggy biscuits, donated by the local pet shop. Perhaps they also come for the chat as many former dog walkers make the effort to re-visit that morning.

About 100-150 people attend and different dog related charities have benefited in previous years.

In 2008 £300 was donated to the Animal Care Trust at the Royal Veterinary College. This charity was chosen as a thank you to the RVC which has helped my Lurcher, Jack, twice in the last 4 years. Each time he suffered a prolapsed disc and lost the use of his back legs. Without the skill and kindness of the vets and staff at the hospital we would no longer have him with us. We are truly grateful.’

We are very grateful to the members of The Chesvale Dog Training Club who wanted to support the work of the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals.

Chesvale Dog Training Club They very kindly presented the Trust with a £5,000 donation, which will purchase a Safety Cabinet, which will be used to mix drugs for Chemotherapy treatment as well as a new digital ECG Machine.

Alumni Donations

Graduating StudentsOver 350 students graduated this year and through very generous donations from the College's Alumni we have been able to invest in a scheme to buy more copies of core text books for our library, enabling them to increase the loan period of books at peak times, such as final year exams.
